Since its inception in 2008, The Global Undergraduate Awards (GUA) has received and reviewed over 50,000 submissions. Year on year GUA receives 1,000’s of submissions from students in over 500 institutions representing every continent around the globe. GUA prides itself on a rigorous judging process, one which would not be anything without the dedication and diligence of our learned panels and chairs.
2026 saw some 400 Judges volunteer their time to commit to reviewing all of our submissions during the summer months. The majority find that this collaboration offers them a great opportunity to benchmark the quality of their own students’ work, while also evaluating and recognising rich undergraduate research in their field. Thankfully, most find it a hugely rewarding experience. The voluntary efforts and commitment of our Judges is greatly appreciated, and we are extremely grateful to the academics and experts, without whom GUA would simply not exist.
The impetus around each year’s Summit and Awards Ceremony is sustained by the support
of a number of Universities around the world, whose strategic missions are concerned with student-led research, interdisciplinary focus, employability of students, and the need to have a role in directing debate in issues of global importance. More than ever, third-level institutions globally want to recognise excellence in their students’ work and see it acknowledged at a comparative level globally.
GUA’s status as the world’s largest academic awards programme has been sustained due to the efforts of so many institutions who annually promote the programme amongst their students.
GUA is particularly grateful to all of our partners, sponsors and supporters, without whom, the awards could not exist. Our Partner Institutions, our corporate sponsors as well as a number of generous and committed individuals. GUA offers a unique platform for the world’s most inspiring students to benchmark their work on a global scale, and ultimately, have this work recognised by an independent panel of judges as being of the highest standard within their discipline.
At a time when there is a lot of uncertainty in the world, the Global Undergraduate Summit embraces these students, enabling them to showcase their outstanding research to an audience of peers, academics and future employers, as they transition to be the next generation of change-makers.
I look forward to celebrating undergraduate excellence with you during the 2026 Global Undergraduate Summit.
