Student life can be exciting, but it’s also a constant juggling act—between lectures, deadlines, study sessions, social life, and everything in between.

Thankfully, a new semester doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. Whether you’re trying to stay organised, boost your focus, or save time (and sanity), the right apps can make a world of difference. Below are some of the best tools out there to help you streamline and optimise your academic life—so you can spend less time stressing and more time succeeding.

Here are a few useful apps that can make a student’s life just a little bit easier.

For Organisation: Google Calendar and Todoist

Google Calendar is one of the most valuable tools students have to keep track of all of the responsibilities they have to juggle. It is free to create a google email and account that links to the calendar app and can easily transfer events from your email to your calendar. Whether it is your class schedule, your job, meetings with professors or classmates, or just setting aside time to go grocery shopping, you can add all of your events, color code them, add a location and details. You can also add reminders and set up notifications to your phone so you never forget about an event.

Todoist is a completely free organizational app that focuses on tracking productivity and making sure you get your tasks done efficiently. Students are able to input categorized to-do lists, enter upcoming projects with due dates, and separate larger responsibilities into smaller tasks and to-do lists. There are templates to choose from to make the platform your own and customize it with labels, filters, and priorities. This can be really helpful for students with full course loads who need to break down larger projects or keep their different assignments separated and in order.

For Studying: Evernote and Quizlet

Evernote is a great platform to take and organise class notes. The free account includes notes and their organization, in-note tasks, 60 MB of upload space for PDFs, files, photos, and documents, and 2 device syncing. You can separate your notes into different notebooks, within each notebook you can add separate pages for different topics and you can choose a template for each note, whether it is a to-do list, an essay, or lecture notes. This is a great app for having your notes handy and available online.

For studying specifically, Quizlet is a great platform to find extensive subjects to be quizzed on by people all over the world.

You can create your own Quizlets for free if you prefer to use your own notes and materials or you can search for a topic you need to study and see what others have created. You can also choose how to study the materials like flashcards, spelling, matching, or just learning mode.

For Networking & Career Prep: LinkedIn and TED

LinkedIn is one of the most important tools for students to have for career preparation and networking. When you create your account you can add all of your work details, experience, any organizations you are a part of and then connect with people you go to school with or have worked with before. As you begin to use the platform more you can connect with people in the industry you are interested in and send messages to try to gain insight into the industry or possibly gain a mentor. You can also find job postings here and look for internships or part-time work through company pages or recruiters on LinkedIn.

TED is another app that is great for students who are looking to learn about topics of interest or hear tips for going into the working world soon. This free app lets you browse TED talks and find ways to increase self-confidence, career prep, and become a better public speaker. It’s good to have for when you have free time or are looking for tips in a certain area. It’s always beneficial to have a free educational platform like TED available to you.

For Money: Pocketguard and Scholly

As a student, it is easy to overspend and not keep track of your finances with all of the other things going on in your life. Pocketguard is a great tool to have that can take on some of these responsibilities and help you get on track to saving money and tracking spending. Within the app, you can link your bank accounts and credit cards, and every time you make a purchase it will upload to Pocketguard. From there you can set savings goals and the app will make sure you are on a good financial path that fits with your goals. The In My Pocket tracker shows users how much money you have left over after paying bills and achieving financial goals and by knowing how much you have left, you can begin to understand your limits and curtail your spending. This app is a great way for students to start their financial journey before beginning a career and having spending needs build up as they get older.

Scholly is a platform that’s mission is to find as many scholarships for as many students as possible. When you sign up for this app you input information about yourself that Scholly will use to match you with scholarships. When you match with one you can save it and automatically apply. It’s also easy to browse scholarships that have upcoming due dates. This is a great way to try and find money to pay for school or bills and Scholly does the research work for you.

For Your Mental Health: Insight Timer

This free platform opens you up to over 80,000 guided meditations for all different topics including stress, relationships, healing, sleep, and creativity. There are different teachers to choose from and you can stay up to date with their posted content if there are certain people you prefer or take a liking to. There are also free talks about life and some life events with speakers and inspirational talks. If you prefer having a self-guided meditation, there are also options for that, giving you plenty of options to get in the right headspace. It’s important for students to take time outside of their studies and busy schedules to focus on alleviating some stress and being present in their own body and head.

For Entertainment: Spotify Student Package

Students can always use a break from doing work and Spotify has come up with a great way for you to do this without breaking the bank. Spotify offers its Premium subscription to students at a discounted rate that you are eligible to redeem for four years. Starting with a one-month free trial, the subscription is €5.99/$5 a month, half of the normal price, and you get access to Spotify Premium giving you access to plenty of ad-free music and podcasts while staying on a student’s budget. Take advantage of this great offer and find a playlist to start studying with!
